Short Description

The Bruker NanoWizard V AFM is optimized for the characterization of biological samples. The AFM supports high-resolution imaging, mechanical indentation and semi-automated single-molecule force spectroscopy. It offers a wide range of imaging modes, including contact and tapping, as well as nanomechanical mapping. The system is operated through a user-friendly software interface. Dedicated software is also available for data analysis, streamlining the workflow from data acquisition to interpretation.

This AFM is integrated with a sensitive fluorescence microscope (Olympus IX83), which can be used either independently or in combination with the AFM. The fluorescence microscope features a LED hub for excitation, covering a wide range of wavelengths, and a sensitive CMOS camera for high-quality fluorescence detection.

The fluorescence microscope enables precise localization of regions of interest, which can then be targeted for AFM imaging or mechanical measurements. The integrated software allows for overlaying fluorescence and AFM images, enabling accurate correlation between optical and AFM data. This seamless integration provides a robust platform for advanced nanoscale studies of biological samples.

Methods & Expertise for Research Infrastructure

The device is primarily used for the characterization of biological samples. It allows AFM imaging, nanomechanical measurements and single-molecule force spectroscopy. The expertise of the research group is in the area of single-molecule force spectroscopy of protein interactions. Expertise is also available in the area of imaging and nanomechanical mapping of a diverse range of cell and tissue samples (frequently in combination with the fluorescence microscope).

Terms of use will be defined in a scientific collaboration agreement.
