Short Description

The co-extrusion film smoothing system has a 7-layer selector plug and a 9-layer feed block. The polymer is plasticized by up to 6 extruders and combined with the selector plug and the feed block into a 9-layer film composite. Via the slot die, the film is fed to the subsequent smoothing unit and cooled. At the end of the plant there is an automatic winder which compactly wraps the film for further processing steps.

Methods & Expertise for Research Infrastructure

The process for the production of plastic multilayer barrier composites for shells and cups is multilayer film extrusion followed by deep drawing. In multi-layer or co-extrusion, the individual polymer melts are distributed via a so called feed block (co-extrusion adapter). These films can be produced with the help of the co-extrusion smoothing system, for subsequent mechanical and chemical research.
