Short Description

The Laboratory for Polymer and Migration Analysis specialises in chemical analytical detection methods with a focus on extractables and leachables studies, VOC screening and pharmaceutical and environmental analysis. Our activities include quality assurance of (pharmaceutical) production processes by determining the content of active ingredients and the identification, characterisation and quantification of by-products.

We support companies at various stages of development with analytical method development and optimisation, feasibility studies, product and process optimisation and the associated preparatory work for cost-intensive GMP analyses. Our team of experienced scientists is available as a partner for time-critical issues and ongoing developments.

Our modern infrastructure consists of two highly specialised laboratories with approximately 120 m2 of space and equipment. Several GC/MS and LC/MS systems (Agilent 5975 Single Quadrupole MS, Agilent 7890 GC, Agilent 7890 GC-FID, both with headspace and SPME capabilities) as well as sample preparation and pre-treatment equipment (SPE equipment, SpeedVac, glove box, safety weighing cabin) are available to answer complex questions.

Research Services

We offer support throughout the entire analytical process, starting with planning, selecting the appropriate method, analysing process samples or sample batches and, if required, carrying out stability/stress tests in our laboratory.
This can also include the preparation and statistical evaluation of analytical results using appropriate software, as well as data distribution and interpretation.

Methods & Expertise for Research Infrastructure

Based on our extensive expertise in dealing with volatile and semi-volatile organic substances in different matrices, we carry out qualitative and quantitative analyses taking into account specific process simulations.

Existing methods include
- Leachables in pharmaceutical products, packaging and process materials
- Contaminants, pharmacologically active substances or hormones in environmental samples
- Biomarker analyses in various biological samples (short- and long-chain fatty acids, hormones, mono- and disaccharides, bioactive natural substances and their metabolites)

  • SPME gas chromatograph single quadrupole (SPME-GC-MS/FID)
  • Gas chromatograph-triple quadrupole mass spectrometer (GC-MS/MS)
  • Static Headspace-Gaschromatograph-Singlequadrupol (SHS-GC-MS/FID)
