Short Description

Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) is coupled with a time-of-flight detector, offering a robust system for determining the mass of biomolecules. The primary advantage of MALDI is the rapidity of analysis (time to result) and its ease of use. Various matrices are available for selectively ionizing specific classes of molecules.

Methods & Expertise for Research Infrastructure

Applications

The Bruker MALDI TOF is a robust system enabling the analysis of peptides, glycans, lipids, and intact proteins. Identification of molecules can be achieved by determining the mass-to-charge ratio or by conducting additional MS/MS experiments. Quantification of analytes is also possible to a limited extent.
