Short Description

The "12T solariX XR FTMS" is a high-end Fourier transform - ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) instrument with a 12 Tesla superconducting magnet for the structural characterization of biomolecules including ribonucleic acids (RNA), proteins, and their complexes by top-down mass spectrometry (MS). The instrument offers high mass resolving power (≥ 500,000 for 1 second transients, > 10,000,000 maximum resolving power, both at m/z 400) and high mass accuracy (< 300 ppb average error with internal calibration, < 800 ppb average error with external calibration, both in the m/z range 100 - 1500). For smaller molecules (<1000 Da), the high mass resolving power allows for separation of 13C, 15N, 18O, and 34S isotopic peaks (isotopic fine structure).

The instrument is equipped with an electrospray ionization (ESI) source that can be operated in positive or negative ion mode, a collision cell for collisionally activated dissociation (CAD), and an indirectly heated cathode for electron capture dissociation (ECD), electron detachment dissociation (EDD), or electron induced dissociation (EID) experiments.
