Short Description

Tracking system in virtual reality lab of TU Wien in Arsenal location is dedicated to track objects and people within the lab area of 150 square meters. The main purpose is research with autonomously driven robots that assist users, immersed in virtual reality environments. Additionally, tracking can be used to track users wearing VR headsets in large area and to perform calculations for avoiding collisions and inferring optimal locations for robot positioning to assist users.

Methods & Expertise for Research Infrastructure

The installed tracking system utilizes optical marker-based tracking technology using 24 infrared tracking cameras, Miqus 3. Each camera has 61 degrees field of view and the tracking system operates in 200Hz frequency. The tracked room has the area of 150 square meters and height of 2,5m. The tracking system is capable of tracking small objects or humans using the markers covered by retro-reflective material. The infrastructure can serve for research in virtual reality, robotics, and human-computer interaction.
