Methods & Expertise for Research Infrastructure

Selective Laser Melting (SLM) or Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) is an additive manufacturing (AM) process of fine metallic powders. The metallic powders are melted layerwise via laser (typical layer height is 20-60 µm) on a substrate plate. After scanning of one layer, new powder is deposited. The new layer is created by same laser scanning strategy. The advantages of this process are geometrical freedom of the AM components, hybrid construction method and the possibility of manufacturing complex metallic prototypes.
