Short Description

In Vivo Imaging System (IVIS) Lumina III is based on optical imaging technology used for non invasive bioluminescent and fluroscent imaging in vivo. The system includes an ultra cooled CCD camera along with a light-tight imaging chamber. Out of many applications, the instrument can be used to study the holistic pattern and extent of infection within the host gaining comprehensive insights of host-pathogen interaction in organ level. Furthermore, it is a key technique considering the host but also the pathogen, with the discrimination of labelled microorganisms within the same animal.

Methods & Expertise for Research Infrastructure

Host-pathogen interaction is a main research topic at the University of Veterinary Medicine and especially at the Unit for Poultry Medicine and it is the major theme for the current use of the instrument. The holistic picture from the in vivo Imaging can also be coupled with histopathological techniques in order to study the cellular enviroment as well which is one of the expertise of the clinic.
