Short Description

eLabFTW is a free open-source software for digital lab notebooks. This solution is available at the University of Graz as an institutional electronic lab notebook. eLabFTW can be accessed via all common web browsers and can be used on all devices. eLabFTW is built on PHP and MySQL in Docker containers and offers researchers the possibility to digitally record, manage, and share their research documentation. Users can create detailed experiment descriptions and workflows, upload protocols, store results, version documents, or timestamp them. The software can be linked with laboratory equipment and inventory databases.

The electronic laboratory notebook of Graz University is free for all employees and is primarily used for FAIR
documentation of research work, teaching activities, and other administrative tasks. External institutions and individuals can get access to the system upon request as part of collaborations. If you are interested, get in touch with the contact person listed.

Methods & Expertise for Research Infrastructure

The infrastructure is based on the free and open source solution of the electronic lab notebook eLabFTW, which is made available to all employees at the University of Graz. The ELN supports users in the area of data stewardship around the organisation of research data, appropriate documentation and backup in connection with metadata and tools for cooperative collaboration. The software facilitates access to as well as publication of research data, compliance with related requirements of funding organisations, and data management strategies.
