Short Description
The Core Facility Biomedizinische Forschungseinrichtung (CF BMFE) at the Johannes Kepler University Linz provides advanced technologies and equipment for experimental biomedical research. The aim of the infrastructure is to give researchers from different disciplines access to highly specialized laboratory equipment.
The gamma irradiation system X‑Rad320 Gamma Irradiation Unit is used for applications such as myeloablation, bone marrow conditioning, and immunosuppression. The self-contained, shielded system is suitable for the irradiation of small animals, targeted local irradiation, as well as irradiation of cell cultures. Due to its high performance, the system enables a particularly high sample throughput for whole-body irradiation experiments.

Methods & Expertise for Research Infrastructure
The Core Facility Biomedical Research Facility (CF BMFE) at Johannes Kepler University Linz provides expertise in the application of preclinical irradiation models for biomedical research. The X-Rad320 irradiation system enables reproducible whole-body or localized irradiation of small laboratory animals as well as irradiation of cell cultures and biological samples.
Typical applications include myeloablation and conditioning regimens prior to bone marrow transplantation, experimental immunosuppression, and radiation exposure in preclinical disease models. In addition, the system can be used for irradiation of cell cultures or biological material to investigate radiation-induced cellular responses.
The CF BMFE provides scientific and technical support for the planning and implementation of irradiation experiments, including experimental design, dose planning, and execution of standardized irradiation protocols. The infrastructure allows high sample throughput under controlled and reproducible irradiation conditions.
