Short Description

The Herbarium SZU is a curated natural history collection hosting ca. 130.000 vouchers of vascular plants, bryophytes and lichens. The focus of the collection is Central Europe and the Eurasian mountains. A carpological collection from native plants, a wet collection of orchids (focus Bulbophyllum) and a silica-dried tissue collection (including DNA-bank) of Alpine plants complement the "traditional" herbarium collection. Part of the collection is digitized and accessible via GBIF.

Contact Person

Priv.-Dozent; Assoz. Professor; Dr Andreas Tribsch

Research Services

The plant collection is freely accessible for research projects (biosystematics, biodiversity research, etc.). Digital data can be obtained via GBIF Austria (https://gbif.at) or GBIF (https://gbif.org). Information about professional plant identification and services including DNA-Barcoding are available upon request.

Methods & Expertise for Research Infrastructure

Expertise in plant identification; conservation biology of plants, population biology & ecology of plants, alpine biodiversity research, DNA-barcoding
