Short Description

Laboratory for fundamental investigations on injection, ignition and combustion phenomena, consisting of: a rapid compression machine (RCM), an injection chamber, an arc test rig and a spark plug test rig. All facilities are optically accessible and are suitable for testing with conventional and future fuels.

Key features:
• RCM with multi-component gas mixing unit (bore 84 mm, max. stroke 250 mm)
• Arc test rig (max. flow velocity 30 m/s, max. pressure 60 bar, max. temperature 100 °C)
• Injection chamber / combustion chamber (volume 28.7 l, max. pressure 120 bar, max. temperature 500 °C)
• Spray momentum test rig
• Spark plug test rig
• State-of-the-art laser measurement technology
• Comprehensive measurement database for model validation
