Short Description

Smart Farming is a vertical farming platform designed using principles of CPS/IoT Ecosystem. The vertical hydroponic system is equipped with a series of sensors that measure water levels, air quality, temperature etc. The system is connected to a local fog node that collect data and transmits this data to the cloud where the data is stored and presented to the user via graphical interface.

Methods & Expertise for Research Infrastructure

The Smart Farming activity developed into a cooperation between multiple R&D projects CPS/IoT Ecosystem, AfarCloud and AgriTech. The notion of modular design and plug-and-play capability of Smart Farming platforms was a main topic of this activity. It uses service-oriented approach to model functions and components of the system as services. This makes this approach agnostic to hardware as long as the middle-ware software is supported by the underlying hardware platforms.
