Open for Collaboration

Short Description

In addition to the microCT, several 3D printers and hand-held 3D scanners (Artec Space Spider, Artec Eva and Artec Leo) are available in the NHMW 3D lab. The 3D scanners make it possible to capture the external 3D morphology and optical appearance of the scanned objects. The results are true-to-scale 3D models with color information, which can be used both in outreach activities and in research.

The 3D printers can print the digital data as physical objects up to a size of 30x30x60 cm (filament printers, FDM process) and up to a resolution of 50 µm (synthetic resin printers, LCD DLP process), for which there are a wide range of possible applications in the exhibition and education sector, as well as in model making.

The 3D laboratory is further responsible for the content of the 3D museum of the Natural History Museum Vienna, which is hosted on the Sketchfab platform: https://sketchfab.com/NHMWien
