Open for Collaboration

Short Description

The cryogenic laboratory was designed with a primary focus on testing electrical and electronic components at extreme temperatures, covering a temperature range of approximately 3.8 to 350 K. At its core is a Lakeshore CRX-4K probing station, capable of electrical measurements from DC to 65 GHz. Optical access is provided via a vacuum viewport with a microscope (mainly for adjusting the needle contacts) and fiber optic connections for UV/VIS/NIR imaging. The standard configuration utilizes two DC ports, two MW ports, and two fiber optic ports. The lowest temperature is reached after approximately 150 minutes of cooling.

Methods & Expertise for Research Infrastructure

Currently, the Cryolab primarily hosts research on the following topics, for which the necessary expertise and equipment are available on-site:
- Testing of electronics (mainly Si-CMOS, but also SiC and GaN) at 4K
- Control circuits and components for quantum computing
- Components for high-energy physics
- Testing of electrical components for space applications
- Thermal measurement of radiation defects in electronic components
