Short Description

The Quadrocopter is meant to fly over larger areas within the category "open" and "specific" according to the new EU-guideline (EU) 2019/947. Equipped with a mirrorless camera Sony Alpha 6000 an lenses (with focal length 35mm and 22mm) it is possible to capture images of areas and structures. The camera can be tilted by 45 and 90 degrees in relation to the vertical axis to improve capabilities of also capturing vertical surfaces. For a more specific selection of image orientation the display of the Etlas Mobile control unit is showing a live-preview of the camera itself. The copter is controlled either by a flightplanning set up pre-flight or through manual control.

All essential systems for ensuring flight capabilities of the Quadrocopter are manifactured in redundant fashion to fulfill increased requirements of AustroControl and similar authorities and to extend possibilities of application. For small-scale surroundings also a drone model DJI Mavic Pro 2 is available to supplement documentation done with the Quadrocopter. Collected images can afterwards be processed into structure-from-motion (SFM)-models using the software Agisoft Metashape. Measuring ground targets with a GNSS-antenna, drone data can be geopositioned.

Due to requirements given by above mentioned EU-guideline there are currently further steps to be taken to assure full availability. Planning very specific applications might be possible nevertheless.

Research Services

SERVICE DUE TO NEW LEGAL FRAMEWORK IN PREPARATION
- aerial observation of surfaces, building lots, buildings
- photographic documentation from bird's eye view
- processing of quadrocopter-images into structure-from-motion models
- geopositioning of images and models

Methods & Expertise for Research Infrastructure

The Quadrocopter is used for capturing geopositioned aerial images and photogrammetric structure-from-motion (SFM)-models in form of meshes, pointclouds and gigapixel orthographic images. Using a specific flight planning or manual control, the Quadrocopter can be applied for documenting built structures and ground surfaces.
