Kurzbeschreibung
The site is located at the main Alpine ridge in Silvretta group right at the border between Austria and Switzerland. Jamtalferner glacier and its forefield is subject to scientific reseach for more than 100 years. The site inlcudes the glacier itself and its forefield between 3200 and 2400 m a.s.l. close to Jamtal hut. Research Services
The site aims at investigating the development of the relation between man and environment at various scales in different times. Therefore, the monitoring part is used as a basis for various research projects, with the results beeing compiled for public via the environmental education program Jamtal.
Methoden & Expertise zur Forschungsinfrastruktur
Current monitoring includes climate, hydrology, glacier mass balance and succession in the periglacial area. In addition to that, several short time research projects are carried out, e.g. concerning glacier albedo.
