Kurzbeschreibung

Der Gerätepark der Core Facility umfasst ein Gerät zur Messung von Gehirnaktivität und -struktur (Großgerät Magnetresonanztomograph MRT), ein Gerät zur Messung der magnetischen Aktivität des Gehirns (Großgerät Magnetenzephalographie MEG), Geräte zur Messung von Gehirnströmen (Elektroenzephalographie; 1x 256-Kanal hdEEG, 1x stationäres 64-Kanal System, 4x 32 Kanal Systeme, sowie 7 ambulante EEG Systeme), Biofeedback/Neurofeedback (BFT/NFT), Geräte zum Training von autonomen Körperfunktionen und Gehirnwellen (3 stationäre NFTs, 3 ambulante BFT/NFTs), sowie Geräte zur Aufzeichnung von Augenbewegungen (Augenbewegungskameras) und Geräte zur Hormonbestimmung aus biologischen Proben. Zusätzlich zu diesen Gerätschaften verfügt das EEG-Cluster über Netzwerk- und Hardware-Dongle Lizenzen zur EEG-Analyse.

Das „Labor für Schlaf, Kognitions- und Bewusstseinsforschung“ unterhält dabei zusätzlich Sensoren zur Mehrkanal (Polysomnographie) Aufzeichnung, sowie Aktigraphen zur Schlaf-Wach-Rhythmus Evaluation und 2 Infrarot-Kameras. Zudem verfügt der EEG Cluster über ein neues hdEEG System mit 256 EEG Kanälen sowie dazugehöriger Physio-Box für externe physiologische Sensoren wie sie für Schlaf- und Langzeitaufnahmen notwendig sind. Das System ist mit EEG-Kappen für Kurz- sowie Langzeit-Aufnahmen ausgestattet und erlaubt auch Aufnahmen mit Neugeborenen.

Der Gerätepark ermöglicht die Beforschung von Fragestellungen aus dem Bereich der kognitiven Neurowissenschaften. Die Augenbewegungskameras erlauben die Erfassung der Blickposition von Versuchspersonen mit einer sehr hohen zeitlichen und räumlichen Auflösung (2000 Hz Abtastrate; < 0.5° Genauigkeit). Das EEG ermöglicht die Erfassung menschlicher Gehirnströme mit einer sehr hohen zeitlichen Auflösung (1000 Hz Abtastrate). Das MEG erlaubt die Messung von magnetischer Gehirnaktivität mit hoher zeitlicher und räumlicher Auflösung. Das MRT ermöglicht die räumliche Lokation neuronaler Korrelate von kognitiven Prozessen. Die Koregistrierung von Augenbewegungen und Gehirnaktivierung (EEG, MEG und fMRT) erlaubt Untersuchungen mit hoher ökologischer Validität. Die Verbindung von Hormon- und Gehirndaten erlaubt ein tieferes Verständnis inter- und intra-individueller Unterschiede in der neuronalen Informationsverarbeitung.

Methoden & Expertise zur Forschungsinfrastruktur

Die Methoden der MRT, EEG, MEG und der Augenbewegungsaufzeichnung ermöglichen Forschung von ""Geist und Gehirn"" an der Schnittstelle der Kognitionswissenschaften und der Neurologie. Die Integration von Kognitions- und Neurowissenschaft (Cognitive Neuroscience) verspricht ein tieferes Verständnis geistiger und sprachlicher Kompetenzen, aber auch ein fundierteres Verständnis kognitiver Störungsbilder. Neben Grundlagenforschung in spezifischen Feldern (Gedächtnis, Mentalisierung, Sprache, Zahlenverarbeitung) werden die Geräte zur Erforschung von spezifischen Störungsbildern benötigt: Lernstörungen bei Kindern, kognitive Störungen bei neurologischen Patienten und deren Rehabilitation, Demenz im Alter, Sprachentwicklung bei Kindern mit Cochlea-Implantat. Mit dem Schwerpunkt auf Störungsbildern ist für Studierende eine breite forschungsbezogene Anwendungsperspektive in verschiedenen Praxisfeldern wie Neuropsychologie, Entwicklungs- und Pädagogische Psychologie und Entwicklungsneuropsychologie gewährleistet.

Die Arbeitsgruppe „Oscillations, Brain and Thinking“ unterhält neben dem (i) EEG-Labor für Gehirnoszillationen, ein (ii) Labor für Schlaf und Bewusstseinsforschung (http://www.sleepscience.at) sowie ein (iii) physiologisches Sportlabor. Das EEG-Labor beschäftigt sich dabei mit komplexen, oszillatorischen EEG Korrelaten von Aufmerksamkeit und Gedächtnisprozessen. Das „Labor für Schlaf und Bewusstseinsforschung“ widmet sich dem Zusammenspiel von Schlaf, Träumen und Gedächtnisverarbeitung im Schlaf sowie der Erforschung von residualen kognitiven Fertigkeiten und Bewusstsein in Wachkoma-Patienten mittels EEG und Schlaf-Polysomnographie. Zudem wird auch Baby-EEG erfasst und untersucht inwieweit pränatales Lernen im Neugeborenen nachweisbar ist. Das Sportlabor beschäftigt sich mit physiologischen Korrelaten von Bewegungsvorbereitung und Bewegungsexekution (z.B. Dart-Spielen oder Sportschießen mit EEG). Neurofeedback wird von allen 3 Laboratorien zur Modifikation bzw. Steigerung von Leistung (bzw. Schlafqualität) angewandt.
