Short Description

The Zwick/Roell AllroundLine Z250 materials testing machine is used to perform tension- and compression-controlled tests and can subsequently be applied to determine the tensile, compressive, and flexural properties of materials, components, or structural connections. Its electromechanical drive enables force- and displacement-controlled static and cyclic loading at defined frequencies, up to a maximum test load of 250 kN.

The rigid, modular load frame design ensures high machine stiffness and precise crosshead guidance, guaranteeing accurate force introduction into the test specimen. The TestXpert III testing software supports standard-compliant test execution (e.g., according to EN and ISO standards), automated evaluation of force-deformation characteristics, and the creation of customized test sequences. A modular accessory system permits the use of various grips, fixtures, and extensometers (including non-contact displacement sensors), allowing the test setup to be flexibly adapted to changing testing requirements.

In civil engineering, the machine is used for the mechanical characterization of construction materials and components, such as determining strength and deformation properties of concrete, reinforcement materials (including non-metallic reinforcement), and composite materials, as well as for testing structural connections. Its cyclic loading capability further enables fatigue and endurance testing at defined load frequencies.

The infrastructure is characterized by high reproducibility of measurement results, straightforward operation, and rapid reconfiguration between different test setups, making it suitable for a broad range of research questions in materials and structural testing.

The following services are offered in connection with the use of the AllroundLine Z250:

-Performing tensile, compressive, and flexural tests on materials, components, and structural connections
-Static and cyclic testing with force- or displacement-controlled load application
-Advisory support in selecting suitable testing methods and configurations based on the research question
-Support in developing standard-compliant test procedures (e.g., according to EN and ISO standards)
-Evaluation and processing of force-deformation measurement data
-Collaboration within joint research projects and scientific publications

Methods & Expertise for Research Infrastructure

The use of the AllroundLine Z250, including the selection of suitable testing methods and configurations, takes place in close consultation with the supervising research team, which has relevant expertise in materials and component testing. Depending on the research question, the test setup, loading mode (force- or displacement-controlled, static or cyclic), and evaluation methodology are defined jointly with the users to ensure standard-compliant and reproducible test execution. Terms of use, access conditions, and any required training on the equipment will be communicated through direct consultation.
